Speckled, apricot-orange, scented fruit with orange flesh is ready in late August, and, for the richest flavour, should be allowed to ripen on the tree until it starts falling. It does not keep, but can be dried, frozen, or used for preserves – don’t forget to crack the stones for the delicious little kernels. Apricot Bredase is moderately vigorous, upright in habit, and very hardy. However, apricots flower very early, and are vulnerable to frost; they are best fan-trained against a warm wall, with protection for the flowers in spring; hand pollination may be necessary. Its flat, linear yellow-green leaves are held on short deciduous shoots and take on bronze-yellow Autumnal colouring. The Swamp Cypress is tall growing and when grown near water produces unusual “knee-like” growths from the roots. Similar to the Redwoods, its bark is richly textured and has a red-brown colour. It is not a fast grower but will attain an eventual huge size and makes an ideal specimen tree, especially near water. Exceptional examples can be found in 'Swamp Cypress Avenue' in Fota wildlife park, Co. However, they do need soil that is on the acid side.

Native to Asia and growing especially well on poor soils, Enkianthus campanulatus var. pagoda is deciduous with light green oval leaves.
