Herbs – Old Future Forests
Herbs

Herbs

Having a selection of herbs just outside your door will change how you interact with your garden. Staples like parsley and sage grow rampant with a bit of care, and even Mediterranean herbs such as rosemary and lavender can be grown in Ireland if you give them enough sun and free-draining soil.

Potted herbs | all year round

Our widest variety of herbs are available from April to June. This also tends to be the best time to plant them so that they have time to put on lots of spring and summer growth! If you're looking for herbs outside of these times, we do usually have some available earlier in the spring and later in the summer as well.

A clump-forming growth habit with bright yellow leaves that will add contrast in any herb border or rock garden. Clusters of small pink or white flowers from early to mid-Summer. Much loved by bees and butterflies. Cut off the dying blooms to prevent seed development and encourage foliar growth. Golden Marjoram is easy to grow, but is a bit sensitive to the cold so make sure it's not too exposed, but in general it should tolerate Irish winters perfectly well. Happy out in containers.

Marjoram and Oregano are names often used interchangeably, even though they are different herbs. Fragaria vesca Alexandria

Alpine Strawberry Alexandria

A long-established American cultivar of alpine strawberry, Fragaria vesca Alexandria is a deciduous, bushy, short-lived perennial, producing pretty, white, single flowers and small, but delicious fruit. The plant bears fruit over a long period from mid-summer to late autumn, and is a fairly heavy cropper for an alpine strawberry. The bright red fruit is smaller and less juicy than summer strawberries, but larger and juicier than most alpine strawberries, with a lovely aromatic flavour, making a beautiful garnish for cakes, puddings and fruit salads. Alpine Strawberry Alexandria does not produce runners, making it much easier to manage than ordinary strawberries. Makes a very pretty edging to a flower- or vegetable-bed, and does well in containers.

Site: Sheltered
Soil: Fertile, well-drained, humus-rich soil, slightly acid preferred
Position: Full sun
Pick: Mid-summer to late autumn
Keep: Does not keep
Hardiness: Fully hardy
Height: up to 1’ (30cm) Spread: 1’ (30cm)

["Berries","Herbs","wildflower
"option1":"Pot | 9cm","option2":null,"option3":null
["Pot | 9cm
["//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Fragaria_vesca_Alexandria03.jpg?v=1569309620","//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Fragaria_vesca_Alexandria02.jpg?v=1569309620","//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Fragaria_vesca_Alexandria01.jpg?v=1569309620","//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Fragaria_vesca_Alexandria04.jpg?v=1569309620","//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Fragaria_vesca_Alexandria05.jpg?v=1569309620","//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Fragaria_vesca_Alexandria06.jpg?v=1569309620
//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Fragaria_vesca_Alexandria03.jpg?v=1569309620
Type | Size

Alpine Strawberry Alexandria

A long-established American cultivar of alpine strawberry, Fragaria vesca Alexandria is a deciduous, bushy, short-lived perennial, producing pretty, white, single flowers and small, but delicious fruit.
