It can be grown under the shade of deciduous trees, and in light grass. The cup-shaped flowers are brilliant yellow, 1 ¼”/3cm in width, and surrounded by a charming ruff of rich green stem leaves, a wonderfully cheering sight in late winter, although the flowers do not open until the temperature reaches 10ºC. The basal leaves are also a rich green. Despite the name, it is related to buttercups, not aconites, and does not share the latter’s deadly toxicity. Divide ‘in the green’ and don’t let the soil dry out in summer. It’s a bulbous herbaceous perennial which can spread to form large clumps and colonies in the shade of deciduous trees where the soil suits it. The single, nodding, slightly fragrant, pure white flowers are tipped with green on the three inner petals. The leaves are long, pointed and grey-green. Divide ‘In the Green’ to increase the colony, and do not let the soil dry out in summer. Delightful as a cut flower. Excellent for bees and other pollinators. From late March to May, the flowers emerge on sturdy stems like little white bells with green markings on the tips of the pointed petals. Plant in naturalistic groups; it is also a good companion to late-flowering tulips, emerging ferns and late yellow daffodils. Summer snowflake Gravetye Giant holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit. Grown by Irish master-gardener William Robinson in his garden at Gravetye (pronounced Grave-tie) Manor.

Site: Tolerates exposure
Soil: Moderately fertile, quite heavy but well-drained soil
Position: Full sun; tolerates partial shade
Season of interest: Spring
Hardiness: Fully hardy
Height: 18”-2’ (45-60cm), sometimes even taller
Spread: 4” (10cm)

["bulbs
"option1":"Pot | 2L","option2":"Not provided","option3":null
["Pot | 2L","Not provided
["//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/LeucojumGravetyeGiant3.jpg?v=1633357437","//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/LeucojumGravetyeGiant1.jpg?v=1633357435","//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/LeucojumGravetyeGiant2.jpg?v=1633357433
//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/LeucojumGravetyeGiant3.jpg?v=1633357437
Type","Size

Leucojum aestivum Gravetye Giant

Despite the name, Leucojum aestivum Gravetye Giant flowers in spring, from late March to May.
