Elegant  arching oat-like flowerheads up to 1.4m rise well above the clump of leaves in early summer; these loose panicles rapidly turn hay-coloured in an attractive contrast to the rather stiff blue leaves. Blue Oat Grass is lovely as an architectural specimen and is a good, low maintenance plant. Upright shoots are covered in narrow, pointed grey-green leaves, attractively edged in cream, giving the plant a light, graceful appearance.  From early spring to early summer, the shoots are topped by broad, conical flower-heads of cream-coloured bracts with green centres and yellow eyes. Gives year-round, structural interest, and is especially good in a gravel or Mediterranean planting, but is not for the coldest areas. Viburnum setigerum has distinctive foliage that takes on colours throughout  the seasons, from metallic blue-green in the Spring, green in Summer and finally Autumnal oranges and yellows. Heads of creamy-white flowers are produced in April and May, followed by an abundance of red oval fruit which hang in pendulous clusters. Viburnum setigerum is one of the best Viburnums for Autumn berries. The old Chinese monks used the leaves to produce a sweet tea, though the berries can cause tummy upsets.
