Masses of huge (up to 10”\/25cm across) goblet-shaped, white or rose-pink flowers appear in April–May, just as the large, deep green leaves begin to unfold. The shape is broad and rounded, making for a good specimen tree. The flowers open white, sometimes flushed pink, from bright pink buds, appearing for a very long period in April and May. Heavy crops of small, honey-yellow fruit can be used for making a golden apple jelly or left to hang on the tree into winter, until they soften enough for the birds eat from the tree. The tree is self-fertile, and is an excellent pollinator for apple trees in Flowering Groups 3, 4, 5 and 6. Can be susceptible to scab, so not advised for wetter areas. Best in warmer areas, trained against a warm wall outside or in a cold greenhouse, or in a container in a polytunnel. The freestone fruit is medium-sized and greenish-white, flushed red, and the creamy-white, sweet flesh has a very good flavour. The tree is moderately vigorous and a good cropper. The leaves emerge coppery-red, turning a deep green in summer and taking on yellow and bronze tints in autumn. Profuse wine-purple blossom from April is followed by small wine-purple fruits which persist on the tree, too small to be worth picking, but attractive to birds.
