The leaves are deep green and very attractively divided, forming good ground cover from quite early in the year. They are good underplanted with ornamental alliums, which flower in early summer, because their developing leaves conceal the withering leaves of the alliums. From mid-summer, beautiful, pure white flowers with golden stamens rise above the clump. Japanese anemones can spread rapidly in a border, and root deeply, so be sure to plant them in the right place. Cut back after flowering. Anthriscus sylvestris - Cow Parsley

Cow Parsley

A native wildflower (peirsil bhó), Anthriscus sylvestris is a familiar sight along country waysides in late spring. It’s a tall, vigorous, clump-forming, herbaceous perennial with an upright habit, and the pretty, fern-like, bright green leaves emerge very early, suppressing weeds. Flat, airy umbels of creamy-white flowers appear from late April to early June, floating attractively above the foliage. Cow parsley is a good plant for the wilder areas of country gardens; it’s tough and easy to grow, and does well where other wildflowers may not thrive, such as where the soil is very fertile and where there is hedge-root competition. Cork in 1890, and named for the nursery which propagated it. The fruit is round, medium-sized, and a golden russet with an orange-red flush. The flesh is cream-coloured, dry and sweet, lacking acidity, and with a distinctive, banana-like flavour. The tree is upright and spreading, and moderately vigorous. A spur-bearer, and a heavy cropper, Apple Ard Cairn Russet is resistant to scab, so a good choice for damp areas.

This Irish Heritage Apple tree was originally saved and propagated by Irish Seed Savers in Scarriff, County Clare.

Site: Semi-sheltered
Soil: Any reasonably well drained
Position: Crops best in full sun
Pick: Late September
Keep: September to December
Hardiness: Hardy
Pollination: Pollination Group 4 (pollinates with Groups 3, 4 and 5)
Uses: Eating apple

Learn more about fruit tree rootstocks

During the bareroot season, our apples are pre pruned before being dispatched by mail order.

["Apple Trees","Bareroot","Pollination Group 4","spur-bearer
"option1":"Pot | 2L","option2":"MM106","option3":"1yr
["Pot | 2L","MM106","1yr
"option1":"Bareroot","option2":"MM106","option3":"1yr
["Bareroot","MM106","1yr
"option1":"Bareroot","option2":"MM106","option3":"2yr
["Bareroot","MM106","2yr
["//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Ard-Cairn-Russet-A04.jpg?v=1633345976
//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Ard-Cairn-Russet-A04.jpg?v=1633345976
Type | Size","Rootstock","Details

Apple Ard Cairn Russet

An old Irish heritage dessert variety, Apple Ard Cairn Russet was discovered in Co.
