The stems are long, thick, bright red, and sweet and juicy with a good flavour. Because it has a low oxalic acid content, it can be picked until late in the year (hence the name ‘Perpetual’) giving it a long season of productivity. Rhubarb Glaskin’s Perpetual is also good for forcing – covering the crown in late December or early January with a rhubarb forcer or a black bin for an early crop of pale, sweeter, deliciously tender stems; allow the plant to recover the following year. Rhubarb is productive for 10 years, and is a very easy, low-maintenance crop. A manure or compost mulch every winter will ensure a good crop; make sure the organic matter does not touch the crown. Ovate, 3- to 5-lobed, bright green leaves turn bronzy red and purple in autumn, and have a spicy scent. In mid-spring, hanging racemes of tubular, pale yellow flowers are borne; these have a rich, clove-like scent which is carried on the air. Easy to grow, buffalo currant is less pungent and garish-looking than the common flowering currant, and looks particularly well with narcissus, pulmonarias and blue spring bulbs.

Site: Sheltered
Soil: Any light, well drained soil
Position: Full sun
Season of interest: Spring in particular
Hardiness: Fully hardy
Height: up to 8’ (2.5m) Spread: 8’ (2.5m)

"option1":"Pot | 4L","option2":null,"option3":null
["Pot | 4L
"option1":"Bareroot | 2-3ft","option2":null,"option3":null
["Bareroot | 2-3ft
["//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Ribes_Odoratum_aureum_01_c6d4ea64-54eb-40e4-82f9-0cf7255f7e97.jpg?v=1569346990","//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Ribes_Odoratum_aureum_02_2eca7756-527e-472c-8cb6-2c74044a0cab.jpg?v=1569346990","//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Ribes_Odoratum_aureum_03_46a453fd-0630-4d17-a177-d948d298bc22.jpg?v=1569346990","//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Ribes_Odoratum_aureum_04_ca8d7afd-8cfe-4e09-8298-f6fce4063811.jpg?v=1569346990
//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Ribes_Odoratum_aureum_01_c6d4ea64-54eb-40e4-82f9-0cf7255f7e97.jpg?v=1569346990
Type | Size
//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Ribes_Odoratum_aureum_01_c6d4ea64-54eb-40e4-82f9-0cf7255f7e97.jpg?v=1569346990
//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Ribes_Odoratum_aureum_01_c6d4ea64-54eb-40e4-82f9-0cf7255f7e97.jpg?v=1569346990
//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Ribes_Odoratum_aureum_02_2eca7756-527e-472c-8cb6-2c74044a0cab.jpg?v=1569346990
//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Ribes_Odoratum_aureum_02_2eca7756-527e-472c-8cb6-2c74044a0cab.jpg?v=1569346990
//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Ribes_Odoratum_aureum_03_46a453fd-0630-4d17-a177-d948d298bc22.jpg?v=1569346990
//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Ribes_Odoratum_aureum_03_46a453fd-0630-4d17-a177-d948d298bc22.jpg?v=1569346990
//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Ribes_Odoratum_aureum_04_ca8d7afd-8cfe-4e09-8298-f6fce4063811.jpg?v=1569346990
//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Ribes_Odoratum_aureum_04_ca8d7afd-8cfe-4e09-8298-f6fce4063811.jpg?v=1569346990

Buffalo Currant

Once known as Ribes aureum, Ribes odoratum is a medium-sized, deciduous shrub with an upright, arching habit and downy young shoots. Spiny shoots and pinnate leaves with small round leaflets turn a light yellow in Autumn. Rugged, deeply fissured bark. Often suckers, so best give it plenty of space. Fragrant, creamy-white pea-like flowers are produced in drooping clusters from late spring. Popular in cityscapes thanks to its resistance to pollution and poor air quality.
