In midsummer the rose is smothered in clusters of small, purplish-violet flowers with white centres and a few white streaks, and a boss of bright yellow stamens; the blooms fade beautifully to greyish-lilac, looking almost blue in some lights. The scent is light, and redolent of orange. This rose does not repeat-flower, but would be perfect for a cottage garden planting. The ovate foliage is deep, glossy green, setting off the flowers beautifully. Large clusters of fragrant, semi-double, rose-pink flowers, 3”/7cm across, with golden stamens, are borne from midsummer to autumn. Rubus ‘Betty Ashburner’ is a prostrate evergreen type of Raspberry with reddish bristles on the stems and shoots which will spread indefinitely, rooting as it goes, albeit less vigorous than Rubus tricolour. It has lobed, wavy-edged, glossy green leaves and once it is established will carpet banks, slopes and any bare ground. It bears white flowers in Summer followed by small red edible berries.

Site: Tolerates inland exposure
Soil: Well drained soil
Position: Full sun to part shade
Season of Interest: Evergreen, edible berries in Autumn
Hardiness: Hardy
Height: 2ft (0.6m) Spread: 6ft (2m)

["Evergreen shrubs","Unusual Edibles
"option1":"Pot | 9cm","option2":"Young plant","option3":null
["Pot | 9cm","Young plant
["//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Rubus-Betty-Ashbourner-09.jpg?v=1571237902","//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Rubus-Betty-Ashbourner-01.jpg?v=1633364970","//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Rubus-Betty-Ashbourner-06.jpg?v=1571237838","//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Rubus-Betty-Ashbourner-04.jpg?v=1571237836
//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Rubus-Betty-Ashbourner-09.jpg?v=1571237902
Type | Size","Details

Chinese Bramble Betty Ashburner

Good robust groundcover for difficult spots including banks and shade.
