Cordyline australis produces a dense mass of long, spiky sword-like dark red leaves on stout branches. On mature plants, large clusters of small, creamy-white flowers are produced in early Summer. The Cabbage Tree is ideal in seaside gardens as a specimen tree or could even be grown in large pots where, being a slow grower, they will be happy for years to come. The deep green leaves are heavily divided into prickly, almost holly-like leaflets. In winter, abundant spires of yellow flowers, scented of lily-of-the-valley, appear, lasting into spring, and a valuable nectar source for pollinators at a difficult time of year. These are followed by clusters of non-poisonous blue-black berries, much loved by birds. Plum Belle de Louvain

Plum Belle de Louvain

A delicious culinary plum long grown in Belgium, Prunus domestica Belle de Louvain is particularly well adapted to northern climates. The fruit is very large, deep red maturing to deepest purple, with sweet yellow flesh, which is rather dry; this is what makes it such a good cooking plum, as pies aren’t drowned in juice. Cooking brings out its excellent flavour; it also makes a delicious, deeply-coloured jam. Plum Belle de Louvain is a vigorous, healthy, disease-resistant tree, able to cope with windier situations and late frosts. It takes a year or two longer than modern cultivars to come into bearing, which gives it time to strengthen its branches for the heavy and reliable crops which follow. Always thin the plums in early summer, for better fruit and to prevent branches breaking under the weight. Prune only in summer. Self-fertile, but may crop better if a different plum variety – an eating plum, say – in the same pollination group is planted nearby.

Site: Sheltered, sunny site best, but it is wind- and frost-resistant
Soil: Any well-drained but water-retentive soil; rich loamy, slightly acidic soils preferred
Position: Full sun, but will tolerate light shade
Pick: Late August
Keep: 1-3 days
Hardiness: Very hardy
Pollination: Self-fertile; pollination Group 3
Uses: Cooking and preserving

["Bareroot
"option1":"Bareroot","option2":"St Julien A","option3":"1yr
["Bareroot","St Julien A","1yr
["//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Plum-Belle-de-Louvain-01.jpg?v=1633360966","//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Plum-Belle-de-Louvain-02.jpg?v=1633360964","//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Plum-Belle-de-Louvain-03.jpg?v=1633360963","//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Plum-Belle-de-Louvain-04.jpg?v=1633360961
//future-forests.myshopify.com/cdn/shop/products/Plum-Belle-de-Louvain-01.jpg?v=1633360966
Type | Size","Rootstock","Details

Plum Belle de Louvain

A delicious culinary plum long grown in Belgium, Prunus domestica Belle de Louvain is particularly well adapted to northern climates.

"}

Unlike the almost holly-like leaflets of other mahonias, the finely cut, long, narrow olive-green leaflets are not prickly, so Mahonia Soft Caress is a good choice for patios where where children play. In autumn abundant spires of citrus-yellow flowers, scented of honey, appear, and last into winter. These are followed by clusters of non-poisonous blue-black berries, which give rise to mahonia’s other common name, Oregon grape.
