The branches are dark, wiry, and slightly twisted, giving an architectural quality to the bush. Spear-shaped, serrated leaves emerge pale bronze-green, turning mid-green in summer and yellow and orange in autumn. In March, before the leaves appear, masses of fat red buds open to flowers of palest shell-pink which develop a deeper pink eye, beautiful underplanted with small blue bulbs, Brunnera or Pulmonaria. This lovely, reliable shrub is easy to grow, and can be pruned after flowering to keep it to 3’/1m (it’s often used for bonsai in Japan) making it suitable for even the smallest garden. Ovate, 3- to 5-lobed, bright green leaves turn bronzy red and purple in autumn, and have a spicy scent. In mid-spring, hanging racemes of tubular, pale yellow flowers are borne; these have a rich, clove-like scent which is carried on the air. The flowers are a good nectar source for pollinators, and are followed in autumn by black, currant-like berries. Easy to grow, buffalo currant is less pungent and garish-looking than the common flowering currant, and looks particularly well with narcissus, pulmonarias and blue spring bulbs.

Site: Tolerates some coastal and inland exposure
Soil: Well drained, normal soils
Position: Full sun, tolerates partial shade
Season of Interest: Spring flowers, early food source for pollinators
Hardiness: Fully hardy
Height: 5-8ft (1.5-2.5m) Spread: 3-5ft (1-1.5m)

"option1":"Bareroot | 1-2ft","option2":"Not provided","option3":null
Ribes Odoratum aureum - Needle-like, aromatic, deep green leaves are just as useful for cooking, and beautifully set off the violet-blue flowers, with their distinctive white throats, in spring. Like most deep blue rosemaries, Fota Blue is less hardy than common rosemary, and is best in milder gardens; like all rosemaries, it hates having wet feet, and must have sharp drainage.
