The handsome, deeply veined leaves are mid-green, elliptical and 8”\/20cm long. The luminous, cup-shaped flowers emerge apple-green, turning a rich, then paler yellow with a touch of pink at the base; the flowers appear on the bare branches, making a glorious spectacle in the spring garden. The elliptical, deep green leaves, 8”\/20cm long, emerge bronze, providing a lovely foil to the cup-shaped, soft primrose flowers, which are paler inside, and later fade to cream. The flowers, 6”\/15cm or more across, start to appear on the bare branches in April, and the leaves emerge around them in the most attractive way; the flowers last well into May. It’s a good, very cold-hardy magnolia which has stood the test of time. The mid-green leaves are oval. Beautiful pinkish-white blossom, very nectar-rich and attractive to pollinators, appears in May. The blossom is also very rich in pollen, and will pollinate dessert and cooking apple varieties. The tiny crab apples, 1”\/2.5cm across, are yellowish-green, sometimes flushed with red; they are sour, but very rich in pectin, making a delicious jelly or wine, or useful for setting jam from fruit low in pectin.
