It is well-known because of its unusual and very ornamental twisted branches. In some parts of Europe, the corkscrew Hazel is used in Easter celebrations: branches are brought into the house and decorated, much like a Christmas tree! The Corkscrew Hazel has dark green foliage producing good Autumn colour. In the Spring, the yellow, male catkin-like tassels are long and pendulous. An ideal specimen plant bringing excellent interest to the Winter and Spring garden. In May and June, dense heads of small, creamy-white, fragrant, flowers appear; these are followed by big clusters of creamy-yellow berries in autumn, which provide food for birds in winter. This cotoneaster can also be grown as an informal hedge or screen. Easy to grow, and drought-tolerant once established, cotoneaster Rothschildianus holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.

Site: Tolerates exposure in milder areas; sheltered in colder areas
Soil: Any well-drained soil, preferably neutral to alkaline
Position: Full sun or partial shade
Season of interest: Late spring and autumn in particular
Hardiness: Very hardy
Height: up to 16’ (5m) Spread: 10’ (3m) in 20 years

["Garden trees","ornamental","ornamental trees
"option1":"Pot | 5L","option2":"2ft","option3":"Not provided
[40280171348002
Cotoneaster Rothschildianus - Keep pruning to a minimum, and plant where the roots can be shaded. Daphne Spring Beauty is lovely in a winter border, or near the house where the scent can be appreciated, but be aware that all parts of the plant are toxic if eaten, and the sap is an irritant. The pale brown bark peels as the shrub matures, and the ovate leaves, 3”/7.5cm long, are deep green and ‘scabrous’ (fuzzy) – hence the species name. In June and July, the shrub is covered with dense, upright panicles of honey-scented flowers, with rows of white petals, tinged with pink at the base. Deutzia Pride of Rochester is notably resistant to honey fungus, rabbit-resistant, easy to grow, and very attractive to bees and other pollinators.

Site: Tolerates some exposure
Soil: Any well-drained soil, preferably moist
Position: Full sun; tolerates light shade
Season of interest: June and July
Hardiness: Very hardy
Height: 10’ (3m) Spread: 6’6”’ (2m)

["Bareroot
"option1":"Bareroot | 1ft+","option2":null,"option3":null
Deutzia scabra Pride of Rochester -
